Cerebral PalsyThe Foundation is currently funding the following research projects into Celebral Palsy. The Multicentre European Cerebral Palsy Study.This study involves eight centres across Europe (Dublin, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Lisbon, London (2 centres), Stockholm and Tubingen. The aim of the study is to identify potential causes of cerebral palsy which might lead to preventive work. 600 children with cerebral palsy have been identified and 450 have been seen by the research group. They have all had a standardised physical examination, a medical/social history taken, hospital records have been checked and investigations including MRI brain scans have been carried out. The data has been analysed and the first major presentation on the results was on 4 November 2004 at the Royal Society of Medicine in London. As papers are published they will be made available on this part of the Castang Foundation’s website. The principle investigators working on this study are Dr Martin Bax, Research Fellow and Ms Clare Tydeman, Research Associate both working at Imperial College School of Medicine, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London SW10 9NH Clinical and MRI Correlates of Cerebral Palsy. 1st Paper Published in JAMA October 4, 2006 - Vol296 No.13. click here for more details. |
